Seven Shadows

In this "fresh urban fantasy grounded in Japanese culture" (Kirkus), a teenage girl must enlist the help of seven powerful death gods to save the world. Seventeen-year-old Kira Fujikawa has always faced challenges, from being bullied at school to being neglected by her parents. On top of that, she possesses the ability to see yokai, the ghosts and demons that roam the streets of Kyoto. Things take a turn for the worse when she discovers that Shuten-doji, the demon king, plans to rise during the next blood moon to find an ancient relic and bring about global destruction.

Despite her lack of combat skills, especially against the supernatural, Kira seeks assistance from seven death gods. Among them are Shiro, a kitsune with irresistible looks but questionable usefulness, and O-bei, a dignified demon courtier with her own motivations for joining the fight. As the showdown with Shuten-doji approaches, the fate of the world hangs in the balance. Will Kira be able to rescue humanity, or will the demon king plunge the world into eternal darkness?
